Trumpeting Local Success

14 July 2020 Trumpeting Local Success

HCS are very proud to have a local celebrity within our ranks.  When one of our IT technicians Paul Hing learnt to play the cornet as a young boy, he probably wouldn’t have thought in 2009 he would take over from his previous cornet teacher as the post horn player at Leicester City Football Club.  Paul first played the Post Horn Gallop on 13th April 2009 which saw Leicester beat Leeds Utd on their way to achieve promotion from League One to the Championship.  Since then Leicester returned to the Premier League in 2014.

Since Paul’s first performance he has played at every single home fixture.  The King Power Stadium has a capacity of approx. 32000 and Paul will have performed at over 200 fixtures which is a fantastic achievement.  The LCFC post horn galop anthem was ranked No1 by Planetfootball in 2019 as the best Premier Club ‘Walk on Music’ theme.  Although lockdown now means there are no supporters allowed, the club has recorded Paul performing in an empty stadium so the sounds of his post horn can still be played out at the current home fixtures.

Paul has said “there have been many memorable moments, good and bad!  One of the best was following an amazing performance from Andre Bocelli, I played the post horn for the players entrance with lots of bunting, flags & fireworks to a packed stadium at the end of season fixture when Leicester lifted the Premiership trophy.”
