If an army marches on its stomach, a small business relies on  the quality of its back office staff. The unsung heroes who, day in, day out, keep track of all the essential operations such as billing, accounts and pay.

For the last 8 years, Val Baker has fulfilled a hugely important role in providing this support, however she is now looking forward to retirement and an excellent replacement, Hardeep Kanwar, has been found.

She joins us from KPMG LLP where she worked as a PA/departmental tax secretary for 15 years providing a secretarial service which also incorporated a Finance Administrator role.

Hardeep commented, “I wanted to use my knowledge and skills learnt from working in a blue chip company and apply those to working within a smaller company whereby I could get more involved in the day to day management of the office and its processes.”

The challenges facing her will include understanding and managing new projects, for example processing the payroll, VAT and other adhoc bookkeeping procedures and being responsible for managing the day to day running of an office.

“That said the biggest challenge has to be working in an all male environment”, added Hardeep.

Paul Haigh, Managing Director, commented, “Finding a suitable replacement for Val was a huge challenge as the influence she has in the office as a whole is not restricted to the day-to-day tasks she carries out, but also in the way that we interact. I am extremely pleased that Hardeep has agreed to join us and I look forward to the company benefiting from the skills she brings.”
